There are many contact lens options available. Your eye care provider will take your lifestyle and vision correction needs into consideration when helping you select the right lenses for your eyes.

Here are some of the most common contact lens types:

• Soft contact lenses – Soft contact lenses are popular because they are very comfortable for the wearer. Soft lenses are appropriate to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
  • Daily disposable soft contact lenses – Our optometrists prefer these lenses for patients whenever possible because they are the healthiest and most convenient option. They are intended for one time wear, to help prevent allergic reactions or bacterial infections and maintain the ocular surface. Disposable lenses are especially appropriate for children or anyone who might not take excellent care when cleaning planned replacement lenses.
  • Planned replacement contact lenses – These lenses are worn all day and then removed at night for cleaning. They generally last until their given expiration date, usually 1-4 weeks depending on the lens material, at which point they must be discarded and replaced because the lens material begins to break down.
  • Colored contact lenses – These are worn to enhance or completely change the visual color of the iris. They are still prescription contact lenses, however, and need to be treated with the same care you would give to regular lenses. Several — but not all — brands of contact lens companies offer colored lens options.
• Hard contact lenses – Hard contact lenses are rigid gas permeable. This means that they are porous enough to allow oxygen to enter through to the cornea. Hard contact lenses keep their shape on the eye. As such, they are sometimes recommended to curb the progression of nearsightedness in younger wearers.
  • Scleral contact lenses – Scleral contact lenses are an excellent option for patients with irregular corneas. They are large enough to span the entire cornea and provide excellent optics for superior vision as well and a good comfortable fit.
• Myopia Control Contact Lenses
  • MiSight® 1 day soft contact lenses are specifically designed for myopia control and are FDA approved* to slow the progression of myopia in children aged 8-12 at the initiation of treatment.
  • Orthokeratology or ortho-k, uses specially designed rigid gas permeable lenses worn overnight to gently reshape the cornea while you sleep. Upon waking, the lenses are removed, providing clear vision throughout the day without glasses or contacts. Ortho-k is also an effective option for slowing myopia progression in children.
